Sturgill Files for Position of State Delegate, MD 7th District
Tuesday, May 23, 2006
Towson — Baltimore County attorney Jack
Sturgill filed with the Maryland State Board of
Elections as a Democratic candidate for the
office of state delegate in Maryland’s 7th
legislative district. This district, which was
reconfigured in 2002, covers portions of
Baltimore and Harford Counties.
The life-long Baltimore County resident seeks
to regain one of the Democratic seats in his
district that was lost to Republicans in the
election of 2002. A group of supporters and
community leaders accompanied Sturgill to
complete the paperwork for filing at the
Maryland State Board of Elections in Annapolis
on May 17.
"Our team has been working hard over the past
several months, already knocking on close to
3,000 doors in the district. I’m receiving
strong sentiments that the 7th district voters
want change and effective leadership. I will go
to Annapolis to work towards solutions," said
Sturgill, who bases his private law practice
out of Towson, MD offices.
"I’m concerned that taxes are rising along with
the costs of health care. I want to see better
planning for growth and development. Everyone
wants to see an improvement in the quality of
our schools. We need someone who gets things
done in Annapolis," says Sturgill.
Sturgill has an insider’s knowledge of
government, having served as special assistant
attorney general, and as assistant Baltimore
county attorney. He additionally was Baltimore
County’s legal coordinator for the American
with Disabilities Act, a position he held for a
number of years.
Experienced as a public advocate, Sturgill has
served as a consumer representative on the
Maryland Board of Dental Examiners and the
Maryland Board of Nursing. He also has chaired
the Council of Boards and Commissions. The
attorney, who began his career in law in 1975,
now serves on the board of directors for the
Baltimore County Employees Federal Credit
Union.
Married for the past 30 years to Marcy, he is a
graduate of Calvert Hall, Towson University and
the University of Baltimore School of Law. He
also pursued graduate studies in urban planning
at The Johns Hopkins University and has shared
his knowledge and talents as an adjunct
professor at Villa Julie College as well as
having served as visiting assistant professor
at Towson University and Loyola College’s
graduate school.
Sturgill currently resides in the Glen Arm
section of Baltimore County.
